Redefining the Lawson McGhee Library
The Lawson McGhee Library, designed by Bruce McCarty, was completed in the early 1970s. Since its construction, the definition of what a library is and should be has changed drastically, mainly due to the vast amounts of information made accessible through technology. The library today is crowded by growing collections and does not have the space necessary to become the rich community center the library directors wish for it to become. By creating an addition, not only will the Lawson McGhee Library gain much needed floor space, but also the opportunity to redefine itself as a contemporary focal point in the community where anyone can feel free to learn, collaborate, or simply enjoy a book.
